This blog “Sick and Tired” was written by my colleague and author David W. Sohn and is offered to invite you to take the initiative and not wait to change until you become sick and tired of patterns in your life that are holding you back. Soul Source is pleased to include it in Wonderings and Wanderings of the Soul and invites you to join David at Soul Source on Saturday, June 13th for the Are You Tired of Being Sick and Tired Workshop (10:00 to 4:30), and the prior evening Friday, June 12th for a reception to welcome David to Soul Source (7:00 to 9:00 pm).[separator top=”40″ style=”shadow”]

“I once heard a trainer say most people will not change until they are sick and tired of being sick and tired. After years of teaching alternative health care, I finally have to agree. There are several reasons for this – from they don’t believe they can change to they are afraid to change. As many people say: ‘Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t know.’
I teach it is possible to change with a precise pattern to change and to create pre-selected results. For example, if I’m shy I don’t just decide I don’t want to be shy any longer, I envision the result ‘I want to be more outgoing.’
The Bible states ‘and it came to pass.’ Please note it does not say ‘and it came to stay.’ This is the wonderful thing about problems!
We sometimes forget we are human beings, not ‘human doings’ because we are always so busy doing things. That is why the most powerful statement you can make is when you declare ‘I am…’ It reminds us of our beingness – our divinity and our power to create.
We have been told so many times we are _______ (fill in the blank) until we actually believe it and behave as if we are that filled in blank.
Let’s make it blank again so we can create something new!
As to ‘better the devil’ – what this really indicates is fear of change. We are taught to fear change, as change always creates a situation wherein the old answer is WRONG, or will not work, or will be insufficient.
An easily understood example is teaching a toddler to take care of their toys and so they do. Then the parent tells the child to share their toys which can cause feelings of being out of control: How can I take care of my toy if someone else is playing with it? Then the parents change the rules. Some toys get broken with use and the parent says it is not a problem, such as when a baseball bat breaks upon hitting a ball. Another confusing factor is introduced when the child falls over a toy and the parent is clearly more concerned about the child than the toy. Each of these examples is a change of the rule ‘take care of your toys’ in that each new piece of information invalidates the old way of interacting with the rule.
It is said the only constant in life is change. Most people attempt to be in control to prevent the apparent ‘chaos’ of change. I find it better to believe life is a dance! Come learn to choose what you want in life and stop resisting change. Come learn a holistic approach to creating competence to DANCE with every change life brings!”
